I had not seen you posting on Twitter for a while and wondered how you were doing . . . so I wandered over here for the first time in the New Year. Hope all is well and that you are hanging in there with this huge, life changing process. You may think some of what you are describing is mundane but your candid, detailed account is interesting and inspirational for others who are contemplating this procedure or any other life change that involves effort, commitment and follow-through. Best regards.

I know (without TRULY knowing) that this must be so hard for you. Take solace in the fact that we are all cheering you on-every small victory. We also mourn your losses and I can understand the mental component. Soon you will again be so immersed in work, something will take the place of the food and you will begin to feel better. And for the record-you do look great. Love you losts-keep your chin up and keep up the good work.

We thought you looked GREAT over Thanksgiving. I feel for you, I know you are going through ups and downs, which is natural. However, I am hoping to have a longer visit with you, especially with the kids, very soon. Love you-keep up the great work!

I was glad to see your Twitter post to know that all went well with the surgery and your recovery was under way. Your posts so far are fascinating. Even though this is a surgery that I will not need given my particular genetics, my wife and I have been through our own medical trials and I wish I had kept more contemporaneous journals. I will check in from time to time to see how you are doing. Given your obvious powers of observation and writing skills, this blog will provide invaluable insights for anyone following this path or any comparable medical, health odyssey. All the best.

Great reading your post and receiving the good news directly from you. I am sure you are glad to be home. Take good care of yourself and I am keeping up the postive vibes from the left coast.

Wow! I received a call a short while ago from Rich and he sounded absolutely great. He had run a slight fever yesterday (Thursday) so they are keeping one extra day. He goes home on Saturday. But his voice sounded strong and clear. Even his mind sounded clear. Maybe they did some rewiring up there too. Welcome home Rich.

Rich,

I was floored to read your initial blog entry. Your words are a testament to the fact that you have been a big positive influence in my familiy's life and you need to know how much we appreciate that. We are glad that you are such a big part of it, no matter how "small" you get. Anything we can do to help, we are here for you, as you have been for us. We love you and support you always. Janet, Jesse, John and Grace

It sounds like you have gotten yourself ready as best you can. I have some experience with other types of surgery and am pleased to read that you are able to use meditation to relieve the quite normal anxiety we would all feel. I look forward to talking with you when you feel up to it.

I'm thinking about you a great deal. I know the next week or so won't be much fun, but I keep thinking about how great you will feel in a few months. Then you will be grateful you did it. In the meantime, you have the world's greatest advocate at your side and....play this for the attention and loving you can get.
